It would be very useful if it was possible to use snap across different objects.

At the moment snapping across layers is great but if the layers are in differnet objects it does not work, at least I cannot seem to get it to work.

Also the current snapping tool stops working if, after using the tool, you click to undo and try to use snapping again without restarting the tool, which is annoying.

Yes, this old snap system has many problems and is very slow.
It is based on the LWSDK 9.x.

The new Smart Mesh version 2 will be introduced in the next version of LWCAD.
It is highly optimized, supports multi-threading, supports NURBS UV mapping and many other new features.

This will resolve your problems.
Unfortunately, it will only work with new tools or the latest updated tools.
Updating all tools to the new system will take some time. Prebably more that two major updates.
The new Smart Mesh 2 tools will be marked with a TR postfix.
